I hope no one minds if I start a new thread in the "Archives".

I just began reading Episode 29 (*) and - let me tell you - it is very well done. From the opening sequences emphasizing important points in past episodes to the fledgling new government to the incredibly entertaining journey to another distant solar system that might - MIGHT hold the answers to the search for Earth.

Extremely well done.

I plan to do some extensive reading and catch up to Episode 30. I am also hoping the writers' strike gets resolved soon so we can get all of S4 and some resolution to the real show.

That will give your team even more options and make a great story even better!

I will be back soon to read more... for now I just want to say that the collaborative effort is working very well.

Kudos to all of you! :D

* - That's "Best Defense", for the numerically challenged.

* Points up *

ROFLMAO at the "Phantom Editor"!!!

* Summary of thoughts after reading pages 1-4 of "Best Defense" *

Preparing to simulate a Mercury Class battlestar with Taurus and Belle… out-STANDING!!! I never thought anyone would be crazy enough to copy Dr. Maxwell, but hey! Whatever works! :D

I am extremely intrigued, as I read, at the prospect of Xen – of all people – bonding a bit with Carilyn Warren.

The “Cylon point of view” and “head-Alexa Synder” plot points with Cepha are working nicely. It’s always nice to get a PEEK at what the Cylons are up to, but not enough of one to know what’s coming next.

An “AMSR” heavy-duty toaster killer… niiiiiiccccceeee….

It’s nice to see only 2 COBRA’s in use early on in Chapter 29. Like the other technological advancements the fleet has made, they’re being introduced gradually and only after being tested to prove that they’re reliable. I like the emphasis on protecting lives… especially the highly trained ones. Risk is fine, but not reckless risk and NOT when you only have 20,000 people left!

LMAO!!!!… who’s the Photoshop expert that put the “tummy” on the picture of Xen?

DeValera’s wife is having TRIPLETS! Wow… there is obviously a fertility specialist in the fleet… either that or there really IS something in the water!

Kalrk and his prototype EMP weapon test is a neat twist… as usual the fleet is preparing to take advantage of the Cylon’s weaknesses inherent in their dependence on technology. That – and the biologicals’ continuing inability to deal with human emotions – has really, in my opinion, enhanced the fleets’ chances of permanent survival. It’s also good to see the fleets’ marines dish out a solid, old-fashioned butt-kicking now and then also!

NICE picture of the “Pythos” system there Ranger… I took a few minutes one night and tried to create something like your earlier description of it, but I couldn’t get the “shell nebula” thing to look cool enough and STILL show the double star. THAT picture works perfectly… a visual touch that greatly enhances the scene where much of this episode focuses on.

Leave off point for next time… start of page 5.

Continuing commentary on “Best Defense”… (#29)

KARL is going on a military mission. Holy frak. He better come back all right or the military is going to answer to Inga! If I would have known he went on missions I would have requested he come along on that Chiron thing!

Ohhh boy… it appears that Ranger writing Andy Peterson is working just fine. Too much curiosity and not enough common sense to move to a safe distance first. Freaky!

Ten plus hours to nova – I really like the way this story continues to mirror the real show. For those who follow both, it’s almost like there’s a divine hand in all of this… someone watching over the humans and nudging fate here or there. It reads great.

Hmm… Kalrk is switching to the Buzzard. This ought to be interesting…

I’m still shaking my head and LMAO that the military has chosen to COPY Dr. Maxwell’s nutjob FTL tactics. After all, all ya gotta do is miscalculate just a little ONCE. Obviously, the Belle and Taurus officers are pretty pumped up with confidence.

* Watches the battle progressing *

Rodrigues is getting very bloodthirsty these days… he’s really starting to LIKE smiting Cylons where it hurts!

Welcome back David!

* Shakes head at Raider X and the Raider’s collision with the Belle’s hull * Creating Libra’s own version of “Scar” are we?

* Notices that the Griffyn’s guns are working reliably * May the gods bless Dean Cowan, Lucy Walters and the coffee squad! They were right to hold out for brand new parts, weren’t they?

Hmmm… Liza is now feeling anxiety during combat engagements because (as VP) she is involved in the decision making process to send forces out. I think I would feel similarly in her place.

* Is EXTREMELY curious as to who’s throwing darts at Kalrk’s picture… I’ve got an idea in mind but I ain’t saying yet! * ;-)

"Watenahi!"

Up to page 18 of "Best Defense"!

Don't know if "Scratch" will be back to try for revenge, but I think it would be neat if he eventually is ordered after the Galactica fleet and turns out to be "Scar"!!!

That would be cool... and that's my guess as to what MIGHT happen.

1. "Best Defense" gets an "A" and a definite thumbs up from this reader!

2. It was good to see the razers function so well in an all-out combat situation. I remember them having limited use on the "Outpost 29", so this was their first large scale use. Between razers, SAWS, supershotguns and strategically placed snipers the ground mission was very well coordinated. I knew the first time I saw those Centurions shooting that the only way to survive a fight with them was to bring them down as fast as possible. Humans are very susceptible to bullets flying back and forth, unfortunately.

3. I'm curious as to what Merton's agenda with Merconi is... he doesn't seem the type of guy to keep Kalrk's secret if he spots other more favorable opportunities.

4. I have no idea what the real show is going to do with that "Final Five" thing... that's kinda one of the primary reasons why I set up the "13th Cylon model" storyline with Josh Nordstrom... because it leaves open a possible way to explain Kalrk in a way that keeps the story from having to go AU. I also think that the Starbuck/Earth plotline might threaten to make AU unavoidable anyway, but so far everyone seems to be coming up with really great ideas and fitting everything in around the real show.

5. I still think that "Scratch" should be reassigned to become "Scar" :!: :!: :!:

6. How come the "Dorals" always get left behind? They're soooooo maniacal and underappreciated!

Great episode everybody! The moral of this story... "Don't frak with Rodrigues and his crack team of specialists!"

Well, *I* thought of it, but I wanted to have our very own personal Raider.

Besides, Scar gets killed! Who knows if Scratch is going to get killed!

Just finished episode 21 and got to see Belle returned to CDF control. Thrilling knifefights and boarding action, and we got to learn more about what happened to Scotts clan. Eagerly awaiting what he is going to do with the Disavowed.

Only thing I missed in the post capture wrap-up was what happened to the scientist. Since Cole is aboard he should have had a run in with him already. He should have taken a look at Mayers quarters and the guy is seemingly still sitting on texa gems in there.

An interesting question AgentOrange. One that will have to be explored.

Thanks for the post!

Episode 22 places him in the brig with the stolen jump data confiscated. Only mention of texa gems in custody is some Dedrick found on Belle's hangerfloor.

Benni is back. Karlk secret is out to him, Riley and unbeknownst to them Merconi.

Looking forward to the coming convention intrigue and rehabilitation of Scotts sworn knives.
