| Quote: | As the Delphinus was hit with several more missiles she began moving towards the nearest baseship. She picked up speed, firing a full salvo of missiles and flak cannons into the area in between. The missiles found their mark, impacting on the central hub of the baseship. The flak cannons sent shells into the oncoming raiders, destroying many of them.
Delphinus never slowed. She continued on through the raiders and plowed straight into the baseship. There was a quick flash of impact then the stars lit up like daytime. Debris flew in all directions and secondary explosions from unexploded munitions bathed the impact area in an eerie light.
Stranded pilots whose ships were knocked offline from the Cylon virus watched in horror as the Delphinus made the ultimate sacrifice. Everyone was realizing at that exact moment they were all now fighting for their very survival. |
[“The Delphinus is gone! Oh my frakking gods, we’re all dead!”]
“Shut the frak up and keep the wireless clear!” Captain Gary Rudnik barked back into his own headset, not knowing or caring if the unidentified pilot was his superior or not. “Commander Krill just bought us all a chance to make these monsters pay for what they’ve done and I intend on living long enough to see that!” Despite the outward firmness of the Viper pilots’ voice, inwardly they did very little for the experienced military man, who knew the reality of the situation.
As his Viper blew through the debris of his third Raider kill of the day, Rudnik couldn’t help but look over to the mortally wounded Solstice. The Libra was already dispatching SAR birds to her wounded sister, but it almost looked to be in vain. The Captain looked away… just in time to see another razor-winged assassin close in on him to avenge its’ fallen brother, guns spitting death.
Training kicked in, and in 0.35 seconds Rudnik’s Viper had changed orientation and was facing the enemy. Two rounds connected with the Colonial interceptors’ right wing, rocking the craft, but thankfully for the fragile occupant merely found metal and non-essential atmospheric systems. The human response was a much different story.
The Cylon hadn’t maneuvered after the Viper rounded on it and would pay dearly for underestimating its’ foe. Six rounds into the brainpan made for a terribly painful resurrection, one the careless creature would not soon forget... or forgive.
As the victorious Rudnik exhaled and thanked the God Ares for guiding his aim in the same breath, a voice broke through his cockpit wireless. “All fighters form up on Perseus and prepare to engage Raiders. Libra’s about to release hell on the remaining baseship so clear her airspace right frakking now!”
As the Captain thumbed the turbo button to form up on the destroyer near the rear of the formation, he noticed that there was, in fact only one of the strange-shaped menaces remaining intact. His spirit soared as an end to the terrible melee looked to be close at hand. Fortune favors the bold.
Pulling the Viper into a long arc, Rudnik formed up with the rest of his squadron in the space around the great Colonial warship, allowing her over-lapping AA defense screen to cover him as he did so. “Alright, let’s make these frakkers pay! For Delphinus!”
With that, the humans turned one of the very emotions that had started the war into their most powerful weapon; vengeance. In a fury, the Vipers spread out like a massive Colonial Day formation around the Perseus and ripped into the scattered Cylon ships. With the destroyer providing flak cover, the interceptors could focus on their main strength and tear into the Raiders with gusto.
Simultaneously, they were presented with the glorious sight of the flagship exacting nuclear revenge on the Raiders’ only remaining place to run.
Had it not been but a small scene in the final annihilation of man, it would have been beautiful. _________________ "It was an unknown unknown!" |
